Where the Road Ends: La Sportiva, Hoka One One, Black Diamond, SmartWool, and Honey Stinger Contest

Where the Road Ends: A Guide to Trail RunningIt’s Day 4 of our Where the Road Ends: A Guide to Trail Running Launch Week contests and we aren’t slowing down a bit. In fact, today’s the first chance for both of winners (yup, once again, we’ll have one women’s and one men’s winner) to pick up not one, but two pairs of trail shoes… along with a lot of other sweet stuff. This pair of prize packs features La Sportiva, Hoka One One, Black Diamond, Smartwool, and Honey Stinger!

As we are holding these contests to celebrate the launch of Where the Road Ends perhaps you’ll check out the book. (It’s now available for purchase!) Also, feel free to spread the word about the book however you feel comfortable!

La Sportiva logoWay back in 2008, La Sportiva was the first trail running company to say “here, iRunFar, test our shoes.” Eight years later, they’re still supporting iRunFar and still making great trail shoes. Toward the recent end of that span, Sportiva started making great trail running apparel, as well. Here’s what La Sportiva is doing to sweeten the pot for two lucky trail runners!

  • La Sportiva Akasha - womens

    The women’s Akasha

    La Sportiva Akasha trail shoe (men & women) — A great all-around trail shoe;

  • La Sportiva men’s Velocity Tank  & women’s Sprint Tank — Good options on a hot day;
  • La Sportiva men’s Pace Short & women’s Snap Short — Running shorts with storage capacity; and
  • La Sportiva Mid-Distance Socks.

Hoka One OneWhen it launched the Mafate, Hoka One One shook up the entire running-shoe world. They took cushioning and comfort to a whole new level. While the height and appearance of some models have trended back toward the center, new midsole materials and, frankly, a bit more attention to appearance mean that Hokas still offer a ton of cushion and comfort. That’s certainly the case with the Karl Meltzer-inspired Speedgoat (men’s & women’s) trail shoe, which contest winners receive. In addition to Hoka’s iconic midsole, this shoe has a well-lugged outsole featuring Vibram’s ultra-sticky MegaGrip compound.

Black Diamond logoYou might not see too much Black Diamond around at your local trail 30k, as you increase the distance and difficulty of a trail outing you’ll see more and more BD! Black Diamond makes a wide variety of headlamps with the Spot Headlamp being a great option for trail running. Should you be tackling very long or steep climbs (or descents!), you might want to check out Distance Carbon Z trekking poles, the standard in collapsible trekking poles for trail runners. BD’s simple, lightweight Bbee 11 Pack offers trail runners plenty of storage capacity out on the trail. The winners of this contest will get all three of these products.

SmartWoolSmartWool has been making incredibly comfortable socks for quite a while now. Their PhD run socks are top of the line and come in a wide variety of heights and weights. The winner of this contest will get his or her choice of two pairs of SmartWool PhD Run socks. SmartWool also crafts a huge variety of incredibly comfortable apparel, including the PhD Ultralight Short Sleeve, which this contest’s winners will also receive.

Honey Stinger logoYour trail run might call for a snack before, during, or after. Enter Honey Stinger which offers many different tasty treats to keep you going on the trail. Two options that this contest’s winners will get to try Honey Stinger Gluten Free Waffles and Honey Stinger Protein Chews in a variety of flavors.

  2. Travis

I think I have a chance this time – if no one else responds! I am glad to see the running community is coming out to support you both and your new Book!

  3. Stuart Maish

Heads will be turning my way as I run in my new La Sportiva, Hokas, Black Diamond and Smartwool gear whilst munching on a honey stinger!

  4. Susan

Excellent work with these contests! All of the products are absolutely perfect for trail runners, and I can only hope I’ll be so lucky to win something!

  5. AniLove

Awesome prizes! But please, make a downloadable version of the book! I’d love to have it, but it costs more to send the book to Scandinavia, than the book itself…

  6. Rich Gordon

Out the top of my cul de sac is a paved path that descends to a trail network in an undeveloped state park called Biscuit Run. Biscuits are tasty, and I love to run, so what’s not to love? Any/all of prize booty will be put to good use out there. (Actually, the name comes from a creek called Biscuit Run.)
P.S. Maggie, my Border Collie/Cattledog running partner, says she would like her own box of Honey Stinger waffles, please!

  7. Melanie Boultbee

Wow. Yet another great prize pack. I love Smartwool socks. I have been wearing them for years.

  8. Ryan Stormo

This is insane! Irunfar already rocks by having great articles and amazing race coverage now you celebrate the launch of what is sure to an excellent book with a week’s worth of unbelievable giveaways! (M)

I love my Akashas and Mutants. Both excellent shoes! Glad to see that Sportiva is still working with you guys after all these years.

  11. Sean M

Still love the stuff you all do. Thanks for being my go to resource for this crazy world of running we are all a part of.

  12. Maggie dempsey

Awsome prizes iRunfar!!!! Super excited for this book and to potentially take some new product out on the trails

  13. Nathan Vannortwick

I liked “relentless forward progress” a lot. Looking forward to reading the new book!

  14. Kenneth Schmidgall

Ooh. I could really use some new socks, most of mine have holes in the toes of them from hiking and running.

  15. Megan dehaan

What a great contest! I would love any of these great prizes! I go through running gear like I drink water… Especially shoes!

  16. Patrick T.

Wishin’ and hopin’ and thinkin’ and prayin’ …plannin’ and dreamin’ each night of this swag. I really want it so baaaaaad!

Thanks for doin’ it to it, y’all!

  17. Scott Andrew Berthel

The prize list each night evokes the title of your first book: Relentless Forward Progress! I am wondering what in the world is left for Friday…

  18. Ian Ramsey

Congratulations on such a wonderful book! I know the kind of long, hard work that produced it is the same kind that it takes to run an ultra. Thanks for all you do for the running community.

  19. Matthew Rutherford

I’m a bit wary of a new version of the Helios, especially the speed lacing system. I love the first version and I don’t understand why I’d want to trade off the ability to dial in the laces in favor of…speed lacing. But I’d give them a try.

  20. Martine Sesma

Purchased the book this week and can’t wait to read it and add to my library on trail and ultra running! – Diva Mom

  21. Lance (m)

Thank you for sharing your wisdom in your books and on iRunFar! Thank you to the gear companies for supporting your work and for the generous contest gear.

  22. Trina Saunders

Another fabulous prize package! Thanks for hosting these fun games and hope book sales are soaring!

  23. Keith Reidford

Looking forward to reading the book! Sweet home prizes! Would love the speed goats for my first 50 miler in July.

  24. Pat Janes

Oh, Black Diamond! Now you’re really speaking my language!

Distance Carbon Z poles are my best purchase ever. Would love another pair, so that I don’t have to share mine with my partner!

  25. Oskar Henriksson

Wow! What an incredible list of prizes! I would love to win, giving some of this gear the opportunity to experience the UTMB in August as a part of my kit!

  26. Sichelle W.

As a trail runner and a bookseller, “Where the Road Ends” is a lifesaver! I’m going to be faving it and handselling it at our bookshop to all of the local runners I know. Thank you for the resource. Also, thank you for this amazing giveaway!

  27. Cocayo

Hey, I thought Christmas was in December ! Thanks for this great contest and everything else on Irunfar !

  28. Kuba

If the book is half as good as the prizes, it is going to be a bomb! Just kidding, tohugh, I know the book is awesome already ;)

  29. Angela

Interesting package of goodies! I’ve never tried La Sportiva before. Although, I’ve seen many folks here in Texas using them in the rugged hill country. Good luck to everyone!

  30. Neil

Thanks for putting this contest on! Even though I won’t win (reverse jinx), I love that you do this for your readers.

  31. Cody L Custis

I finally ordered the z-poles. I figure I’ll need them for the Elkhorn 50 miler coming up, but I know that learning to use them on shorter events will drive me crazy. But, that’s part of training!

  32. Ethan Money

This seems to be the day I would want to win over any of them. Wouldn’t have to look at buying trail shoes for a while. Still can’t wait to buy and read the book though.

  33. Janzen

I am a man (Brian Regan reference). I would love to try La Sportiva trail shoes. We use Honey Stinger all the time.

  34. Bryan Connolly

BD Poles and Akasha’s… throw in some Honey Stingers and I am ready to tackle Marathon Des Sables…. hmmmmm maybe add a boat load of training as well.

  35. Sophia Tam

Sometimes you just need an inspiration while you’re stucking on the bottleneck….. looking forward to have a copy of the book & finding my way ‘where the road ends’

  36. Jeff

hot dang I want a pair of Akasha’s so bad. I run in exclusively La Sportiva trail shoes and my Wildcats are about to kick the proverbial bucket.

  37. David B Leeke

Relentless Forward Progess was the guide to a great part of ultra running for me.
    That was four years ago.
    So Good luck, guys!
You deserve success for all the hard work and dedication you’ve put into the running community.

  38. Michael Dominguez

I wish people would put more thought into their comment, cause if I’m going to stay up way past my bedtime I’d like to read something a little more witty and whimsical.

    [email protected]!

I actually have to go to sleep now, it’s really late :(

  39. Dan Tyree

Your last book helped me get off the roads and on to the trails. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks for all you do for the trail community.

  40. Linnea (female)

As a beginner in trailrunning I think I’ve finally found something I really like doing, and hopefully can keep on doing until age 90-ish. I’m eager to learn more about trailrunning and this book seems promising. Can’t help entering this giveaway too for a chance to get some gear to help me on the way to becoming a full fledged trailrunner.

  41. Jon Perz

can’t wait to read the new book.. loved the other one. Can never get too much information especially for ultras.

  42. Justin Taylor

Lost almost 100 lbs and am running my first ultra this year. irunfar.com has been an amazing resource in my journey. Love you guys

  43. Curt Krieger

Always love irunfar contests…also need to add this book to my collection. Already have Relentless Forward Progress!

  44. Elaine

One time when I was 9, I won a creepy yellow 6 ft plush easter bunny from the local drug store. My mom still has it at her house until I win something again. I’m 39. Help out my mom and free the bunny! (and I’d be happy with the gear, of course).

  45. Lisa Campbell

These are some of my favourite brands of products for running in! Nice to see them represented! I’d love to win this day’s prize…

  46. Brendan Watt

Would love some of these prizes in order to tackle my first 100k event later in the year in S.E Queensland, Australia.

  47. Anna

I want to be converted to Hoka’s and the Speedgoat looks like just the ticket. Plus, I would love some more Smartwool gear!

  48. Hans

As an old climber I have always been a LaSportiva fanboy. I have not tried their running shoes though. I shure would like to!

  49. dean G

The prizes are great – but these sponsors are lucky. There’s no way they can adequately compensate M and B for all the free publicity irunfar gives them

  50. Richard

Smartwool socks – now that would just help complete my shopping list. All mine are just about thinned out. A couple pairs would be helpful.

  51. Jackie Dineen

Looking forward to reading the book. I’ve down loaded it on to my phone, so I can take it pretty much anywhere.

  52. Jason Charles

Ran into a black bear on tonight’s run (truthfully). Perhaps those honey stingers will really help out next time! ;-)
