Home Depot Run

May 7, 2007 by Bryon Powell · 3 Comments

Last week was not a good week for my training. I ditch running Miwok and instead took the whole week off to spend 9 consecutive days renovating my new house. I only got out to run 3 days after.. .which stinks after a promising two week stretch of training. Fortunately, I’m still jonesing to run.

On the positive side, I’m weighing in around 152 pounds these days, which is right around race weight. I know I’ve atrophied some muscle, so this is not a true race leanness, but it’s better that I get into training at this weight as opposed to the 162 pounds I weighed in at when March ended. I’ve only been this light two other times in the 10 years since my sophomore year cross country season in college (I can’t believe it was that long ago), and those two times were at my peak fitness just after Western States that past two years. If and when I start to race again, I’ll at least be light … even if I’m not in shape.

I’ve still got a ton of work to do in the house. Tonight, I need to pick up a can of spray paint from Home Depot, so I’ll fold my errand into my run and find a route to the depot, which should be about 3 or 4 miles away. The trick will be finding a non-highway route as I near the store.

Nice Goat, the House renovating…I mean “cross training” is going to be beneficial. I bet you will be very surprised how rapidly you regain form. Long work day son your feet are good for endurance too. Good luck and I can’t wait to be back in Arlington to see the new place.

Loomis, I’m definitely getting in many a long day on my feet. And a good time of it on a ladder with narrow steps, meaning my feet are really strong. :-) Not sure if the lead paint dust, spackle dust, and volatile organic compounds will help or hinder my lung function.

    Olga,
Not sure when the house will be done. I have to be out of my current apartment on Monday, so I’m making a final push to get as much done as I can.

I plan heading to Laramie, Wyoming for a double marathon next weekend – it will be my first break in eight weeks. Two weeks after that I have the 71 mile Laurel Highlands Ultra on the calendar. All this should be very interesting as I only have two 10+ milers in the past two months… and maybe more. I may or may not bag Vermont and run a different 100 in the late summer or fall.
