Go West (and read), Young Man

August 30, 2007 by Bryon Powell · Leave a Comment

I’m so excited about my pending trip out west and can hardly sit here at my desk while waiting for my early evening flight. Lots of good running, good times, good beer (or bad), and good people to be had. In addition to running and relaxing, I plan to add a third “R” to my itinerary – reading. I’m pretty sure that I’ve not read a book in at least half a year. After rummaging through my boxes of books as well as my mental “to read” list, I find myself bringing the following wide assortment of books with me, none of which I’ve previously read:

Atlas Shrugged – Ayn Rand
Death of a Salesman – Arthur Miller
Hamlet – William Shakespeare
Shopgirl – Steve Martin
The World Without Us - Alan Weisman

Obviously, I cannot read all of those books over the next 10 days. (I could read all of them except for Atlas Shrugged.) I wonder what I’ll pick up and start to read this evening. Already started Hamlet, but am not far enough along that I couldn’t switch to something else.

In the interest of full disclosure, I also brought one of my favorite books with me, The Sibley Field Guide to Birds – Western North America.
