Gut training 3
Galactose and Glucose utilize co-transport and cross the cell membrane with sodium via the sodium-dependent glucose transports (SGLT-1). Fructose is transported via Glucose transporter-5 (GLUT-5) which is not sodium dependent and is highly specific to fructose. All three use GLUT-2 to be transported into the circulatory system. It should be noted enterocytes are simply the cells that make up the lining of the intestine.
