This mountainous but fast race starts at 5:45 p.m. CEST on Friday, August 29, in Chamonix, France, and runners have until 4:30 p.m. on Sunday to complete the 174-kilometer (108 miles) mountainous loop encircling the famed Mont Blanc. About the Altra Experience Wild 2 Trail Running Shoes

On the plush side for Altra, the Experience Wild 2 has a 4-millimeter drop and a rockered shape for a light and efficient gait during long runs on rough terrain. The trail shoes have a listed weight of 10.4 ounces for men and 8.8 ounces for women.

As part of the Experience line, this shoe has a compression-molded EVA foam for a light and responsive midsole. The rocker shape gives the feel of being pushed forward from toe-off without interfering with your natural stride. You’ll still find Altra’s roomy FootShape fit, so your toes have plenty of room to splay and adapt to the terrain.

Underfoot, the brand’s grippy MaxTrac outsole offers traction and durability over trails in varied conditions. These shoes make great hiking companions, too.

Altra Experience Wild 2 Specifications:

  • Altra FootShape
  • MaxTrac outsole
  • Neutral support
  • Listed Weight: 10.4 ounces (men’s)/8.8 ounces (women’s)
  • Stack height: 32 millimeters at the heel/28 millimeters at the toe
  • Drop: 4 millimeters
