Belgium’s Matthieu Bonne and Poland’s Patrycja Bereznowska both had massive weekends of racing, respectively setting new men’s and women’s 48-hour world records at the 2025 UltraPark Weekend 48 Hour race in Pabianice, Poland.

Bonne ran 485.099 kilometers (301.426 miles). This performance extended Yiannis Kouros’ previous record of 473.495 kilometers (294.216 miles) by 11.6 kilometers, or 7.2 miles.

Bereznowska covered 436.371 kilometers (271.148 miles). This broke Camille Herron’s previous record of 435.336k (270.505 miles) by a little over 1 kilometer, or about 0.6 miles.

The race kicked off at noon Polish time on Friday, May 30, and wrapped up on Sunday, June 1. Conditions were warm throughout, getting close to 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit) with high humidity, but the shade provided by the three-lined course reportedly made for pleasant enough conditions. The race is run on a flat asphalt loop, measured and certified, of just under a mile through the city’s Park Wolności.

The event served as the Global Organization of Multi-Day Ultramarathoning 48-Hour World Championships.

Both records are pending ratification by the International Association of Ultrarunners.

Matthieu Bonne’s Men’s 48-Hour World Record

Belgium’s Matthieu Bonne has broken the men’s 48-hour world record, running 485.099 kilometers (301.426 miles), with the final distance to be confirmed, at the 2025 UltraPark Weekend 48 Hour race.

Becoming the first man to break the 300-mile barrier in a 48-hour race, the 31-year-old also pushed out the Greek ultrarunning legend Kouros’ 29-year-old record by at least 11.6 kilometers, or 7.2 miles. Kouros’ record was set in Surgeres, France, in May 1996.

Matthieu Bonne sets a new men’s 48-hour world record at the 2025 UltraPark Weekend 48 Hour race.

Bonne’s total distance in the allotted time equates to an average elapsed pace of roughly 5:56 per kilometer, or 9:34 per mile, for 48 hours, including all breaks.

He banked distance early on in the race, and was well ahead of record pace after 12 hours, with 143.21k in the bank. After 30 hours, he had covered 329.57k, and the record still looked well within reach. Although Bonne inevitably slowed down in the final quarter of the race, he appeared comfortable throughout, thanking fans who applauded as he broke the 300-mile barrier, before continuing on his last victory laps.

Bonne has a background in a range of endurance sports, with accolades in open water swimming as well as ultrarunning. He’s a previous finisher of the Marathon des Sables, and also reset the men’s six-day world record at the 2024 GOMU-EMU 6-Day World Championships in Hungary.

Patrycja Bereznowska’s Women’s 48-Hour World Record

Poland’s Patrycja Bereznowska has now reclaimed the women’s 48-hour world record, running 436.371 kilometers (271.148 miles) to improve on Herron’s previous record by just over a kilometer, or roughly 0.6 miles. This comes three years after Bereznowska last set the 48-hour record at the same event in 2022, when she ran 403.32 kilometers (250.611 miles). She dug very deep this past weekend to improve on that mark by more than 20 miles.

Bereznowska’s 2022 record had stood until the following year, when the U.K.’s Joasia “Jo” Zakrzewski ran 411.458 kilometers (255.668 miles) at the 2023 Taipei Ultramarathon.

Herron bested Zakrzewski’s record a month later at the 2023 Sri Chinmoy 48 Hour Festival, which was run in Bruce, Australia, setting the next world record mark to beat.

Bereznowska’s total distance equates to an average elapsed pace of around 6:36 per kilometer for 48 hours, or 10:37 per mile. That average pace includes all breaks for logistics.

Bereznowska, age 49, ran relatively close to record pace throughout the event. She didn’t have much to spare toward the end of the race and worked hard in the final hours, with spectators unsure if she would surmount the prior world record. Celebrations were thus wild when she did so, and then ran about an extra kilometer beyond it, in the 48-hour race’s final minutes.
