2011 La Sportiva Mountain Cup

December 27, 2010 by Bryon Powell · 10 Comments

2011 La Sportiva Mountain CupAlthough La Sportiva has yet to officially announce the 2011 La Sportiva Mountain Cup, we’ve obtained an advanced copy of the schedule. This year’s series will once again consist of 10 sub-marathon distance trail races. The season will kick off in North Carolina with the 20 miler race at the Uwharrie Mountain Run on February 5 and conclude at the Jupiter Peak Steeplechase in Park City, Utah on August 6th. With the Mountain Cup season lasting just over half a year, there will be no weekends with two or more Mountain Cup races in 2011. Once again, $25,000 in prize money will be on the line. We here at iRunFar are psyched to announce that we’ll be covering the entire series, just as we did in 2009 and 2010.

Are you planning on running any of these races? Have you competed in the Mountain Cup in previous seasons? If so, what did you think?

It is a shame to see they are skipping Rock2Rock 10K in Black Mountain NC this year…

La Sportiva is still sponsoring R2R, i hear Uwarrie will not disappoint and even though that venue is full there r 75 spots open for Mt Cup runners.

Lulu, thanks for the info. I’ve run the 40 mile version of Uhwarrie and it’s a great race! So glad to hear that some Mountain Cup runners will be able to get in.

I love the course at Uwharrie! I’ll be running the 40 miler for the second time this year. Many mountain cup runners are going to be surprised when they show up to the relatively flat peidmont and then run up and down 3500 ft of gain on some quite technical terrain. Those back-to-back-to-back 300-500 ft climbs over the distance will just start to wear you down.

I’d like to do the Rothrock Challenge; but it’ll depend on my 50K race schedule. Rothrock looks like a good race. Has anyone else done that race and would care to comment on it?

Bryon… does this mean you’ll be in the CLT area covering Uwharrie or you’ll need someone local to help with coverage? Either way let me know… I’m sure I can help in some way.

Stack, I won’t be heading east for Uwharrie, but some local help with coverage would be fantastic! You racing any of the events?

sad but understand its a long commute.

i didnt register for any of the Uwharrie runs w/ my knee issues and it filled. still nursing the knees but if i’m feeling ok by then and there are spots in the 20 then who knows.

if i’m not racing (which honestly isn’t likely) then let me know what I can do to help.

I love that Dry Creek 1/2 is on the schedule. It is a great course. Hopefully the Boise Hash House Harriers will still have jello shots and beers!
