Where the Road Ends: New Balance, Nathan, Stance, UnTapped, and BUFF Contest

Where the Road Ends: A Guide to Trail RunningI’m happy to announce that while today’s Friday, it won’t be the final day of our Where the Road Ends: A Guide to Trail Running Launch Week contests! Today, we’re again offering two prize packages (one for each gender) with great products from New Balance, Nathan, Stance, UnTapped, and BUFF.

Remember that all these contests support the launch of iRunFar editors Meghan Hicks and Bryon Powell’s new book Where the Road Ends: A Guide to Trail Running, which is now available for purchase on the cheap, with autographs, and on ereaders. Also, consider spreading the word about the book however you feel comfortable!

The Contest

New Balance logoTraditional running brands are making some great shoes and apparel to hit the trails in and New Balance is at the forefront of these. They’ve just released the Vazee Summit, a lightweight, aggressively lugged shoes that’d be more than capable in mud or on the mountains. The NB Leadville v3 is more of an all-around shoe with a bit more substance. The winner will get the choice of the Vazee Summit or the Leadville v3.

One nice thing about trail running is that most running apparel is up to the task and that’s certainly true of running shorts. I (Bryon) wear my preferred style of NB running shorts on nearly every run. Both winners will get to pick a pair of New Balance running shorts in his or her preferred style. They’ll also get a Short Sleeve Heather Tee and a Lite Packable Jacket for a little extra warmth and protection on cool or inclement runs.

Nathan Sports standard logoNathan has been a leader in runner-specific hydration solutions for many years. The Nathan VaporAir (for men) and VaporAiress (for men) are hydration packs that should fit a wide range of needs. For hydration in your hand, you can go with the Nathan QuickDraw Plus, which features a small pocket on a handheld waterbottle. Nathan also offers a slew of products outside of hydration, including an expanding range of lighting solutions of which the Nathan Halo Firea super bright, highly adjustable, rechargeable, smart headlamp–is at the pinnacle. Both winners will get a QuickDraw Plus and Halo Fire headlamp as well as the gender-appropriate pack of the VaporAiress and VaporAir.

Stance logoStance has brought fashion and style to the sock world, recently including the running sock world. If you’re looking to sport a little style on your next trail run, consider Stance’s Fusion Run line of socks. Both winners will get to choose three pairs of Fusion Run socks of their liking.

UnTapped Energy logoUndoubtedly, my favorite running fuel innovation of the past few years has been UnTapped maple syrup packets. What are they? Exactly what the name suggests: pure maple syrup (and nothing else) in energy gel packets. I can’t get enough of them. The two winners of this contest will each get a box of UnTapped gels.

To top things off, literally, in this contest, we’re throwing in an Original BUFF, the original multi-purpose headwear for each of the winners.

  8. Cody L Custis

I’ve been debating getting a new hydration pack. Might be nice to get some gear roundups here. I’ve seen individual products reviewed, but cannot remember a “we tested ten hydration packs and found….” type article.

  9. Ethan Money

Never even heard of UnTapped until now. Sounds like an interesting concept using pure maple syrup for an energy packet.

  10. Craig Woodward

OMG…maple syrup aka nectar from the gods. I thought I was the only one who drank that stuff straight up (yup, I’m canadian!) What a great series of contests!
Good luck with the books! Sign me up for the (women’s)draw.

  12. Carole Holley

I thought I had to have pancakes for my maple syrup fix. Glad to know that’s not necessarily true.

  13. Ian Jones

Just come in from a trail run through the woods where I was pelted by hailstones! So would be nice to have some new kit!!

  15. Louis Pitschmann

Bryon’s Relentless Forward Progress is guiding my training for my first ultra (Lake Hodges 50K in October). I think I’m on track so far. I’m looking forward to reading the new book. Great full for the inspiration I get from reading irunfar.

“Something will have gone out of us as a people if we ever let the remaining wilderness be destroyed … We simply need that wild country available to us, even if we never do more than drive to its edge and look in.”

― Wallace Stegner, The Sound of Mountain Water

  22. Ian Ramsey

Thanks so much for the book and all else you do! You’re a real conduit for the Ultra community!

  23. Trina Saunders

  24. Katie Silcox

Please choose me! Running has turned out to be the second best medication for my type 1 diabetes. I run six days a week with some speed work and some strength training. I was diagnosed at three and have been running most of my life since then. I have none of the complications most people due, largely because the running has helped me maintain consistently good blood sugars. I also love it because it lets me do what is essential and core to me: explore my physical environment: trails and urban. Unfortunately, the diabetes stuff costs more than my insurance covers, so sometimes it’s hard to afford decent running gear … every bit helps. Thanks for all the coverage and inspiration!

  25. Tom Davidson

Hello there irunfar, I love your race commentary and behind-the-scenes tidbits from the big ultra races. Great contest too!

    -Tom

  34. Faye Johnson

The book looks fantastic! Awesome prize packs with some brilliant brands! Exciting, fingers and toes crossed!

  35. Matthew

Dear gods of the pain cave,
I was born a poor young dirtbag. I worship the trails people look at me like I am crazy when I tell them my shoes belong in a church.

  36. Paul Weaving

New Balance have a factory in Cumbria, one of the most beautiful places in the world. You should visit.

  37. Stu Cameron

Stance socks are fantastic. I didn’t know what all the hype was about until I tried them. Now they are my ‘go to’ socks for runs in all conditions. They support, stay warm in the cold, don’t get baggy and move around even when soaked.

  38. Bob Gilmore

I’m slow…I just have to be faster than the slowest, like if zombies were after me. Words of wisdom, surely worth some kinda swag?

As a beginner in trailrunning I think I’ve finally found I really like doing, and hopefully can keep on doing until age 90-ish. I’m eager to learn more about trailrunning and this book seems promising. Can’t help entering this giveaway too for a chance to get some gear to help me on the way to becoming a full fledged trailrunner.

  50. Kayla Wilson

No one is born talented, it’s the amount that of effort and focus you apply to a discipline that creates the phenomenon known as “talent.”

iRunfar is killing it. May you slay many more dragons.
