Join us and hundreds of others on Saturday, April 4 when we come together as a global community to take part in the Operation Inspiration Virtual Race. This Virtual Race is meant to gather us for a communal physical effort, while motivating some of us to push a little further or harder–or to simply get in a workout–during a time when in-person races aren’t an option.
We are offering multiple entry fees so you can choose what’s financially feasible for you. Your entire entry fee goes to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund to support its global response to the COVID-19 pandemic. (If you live in the United States, 100% of your entry fee is tax deductible.) If you’re entering for multiple people, please leave an “Order Note” with the names of everyone for whom you’re entering. Together, we’ve raised more than $30k(!?), let’s see what we can do!
To complete this Virtual Race, work out for at least one hour anytime on Saturday, April 4. Depending on local regulations, this might mean an outdoor run or an in-your-home workout. Whatever you can do for 60 minutes works. This is an honors-system challenge! Once you’re signed up, you’re in.
We will be randomly drawing more than 140 prizes with a total value of $16,000(!) from amongst all entered athletes, with winners to be announced by April 12.
If you’re a fan of iRunFar’s live race coverage, then you’ll love this. We’ll be livecasting the Operation Inspiration Virtual Race across our social media platforms, sharing people’s workouts from around the world as they are happening! We’ll also have race bibs and virtual post-race hangouts on race day. Entrants, stay tuned for our pre-race email where we’ll let you know how you all the details (you can also download your bib and the race schedule directly), including how you can contribute to the livecast. This is going to be a blast!
Finally, you can add $5 to your entry fee to purchase the Operation Inspiration Sticker Bundle containing 2 iRunFar logo stickers and 1 Operation Inspiration logo sticker (see logo to right), which we’ll ship post-race with free shipping. (They’ll be sent to your billing address. To use a different address, please note it in the “Order Note” on checkout.)
See who you’ll be working out with here on the full entrants list.
Operation Inspiration Virtual Race Health and Safety Guidelines
As hard as it is to say out loud, we’re amidst a global health crisis. Our participation in the Operation Inspiration Virtual Race must use the utmost care for the safety of ourselves, our community members, and our local government regulations.
In this light, we:
- Ask you to follow all your local government requirements and guidelines;
- Ask you to follow the social distancing and health suggestions in our article, COVID-19: A Trail Running and Ultrarunning Community Guide;
- Discourage you from running with anyone outside your household;
- Discourage you from traveling more than a very short distance to go for a run;
- Discourage you from remote or risky runs that might divert healthcare professionals to your search or care; and
- Encourage you to be creative in finding inspiring runs that have been hiding in plain sight or finding ways to make your indoor workouts more enjoyable.
Help Make This Communal
It’s our hope that this is truly a communal event.
To help make that happen, share your enthusiasm for the race on social media tagging your posts with #OperationInspiration before, during, and after the event.
After your workout, feel free to upload it to Strava, join other racers in iRunFar’s Strava club to share your workout, and give kudos and comments to other racers. You can also let us know how your virtual race went over in the comments section of the accompanying article on iRunFar.com.
