2009 MMT Update 5 – Evening Washout [Also, Karl Wins!]
May 16, 2009 by Bryon Powell · 10 Comments
iRunFar would like to give a hearty salute to those women and men still out on the Massanutten 100 course. Yeah, the weather conditions could have been worse, but it was still a brutal day out there. The day started with light fog and humidity levels near or at 100%. As the sun burned off [...]
2009 MMT Update 4 – 211 East (58.1 miles)
May 16, 2009 by Bryon Powell · 2 Comments
At 2:34 this afternoon Karl Meltzer stormed through the unofficial aid station at 211 East (58.1). Less than 10 minutes later a severe thunder storm rumbled through 211 East and the nearby Visitors Center AS (48.2). Rain or shine, Karl now has a commanding lead of almost an hour (53 minutes) that he’s steadily built [...]
2009 MMT Update 3 – Gap Creek 1 (39.8 miles)
May 16, 2009 by Bryon Powell · 2 Comments
The 5.6 miles from Camp Roos to Gap Creek 1 (mile 39.8) ran tougher than usual today. A recent fire cleared things out up on top and made for some hot midday running. Meltzer (11:16) used this stretch to add another 11 minutes to his lead over Todd Walker (11:47). While Glen Redpath lost time [...]
2009 MMT Update 2 – Camp Roosevelt (34.2 miles)
May 16, 2009 by Bryon Powell · 1 Comment
Karl Meltzer (10:12) opened up his lead over Todd Walker and the field between Habron Gap (mile 24.7 – no update) and Camp Roosevelt (mile 34.2). That said, he took an uncharacteristically casual approach in and heading out of the aid station. Todd Walker was 20 minutes back (10:32) and seemed to be in a [...]
2009 MMT Update 1 – Shaw Gap (8.7 miles)
May 16, 2009 by Bryon Powell · 1 Comment
Todd Walker had the lead into the first aid station at Shaw Gap (8.7 miles) with Karl Meltzer just a few meters back. Glen Redpath was three minutes back with Keith Knipling another minute behind. Another five runners including Joe Kulak came in the next minute or two. Amy Sproston entered the aid station in [...]
2009 Massanutten 100 – Men's Race Preview
May 15, 2009 by Bryon Powell · 7 Comments
This year’s MMT 100 men’s race is so competitive and so chock full of friends that we’ve put off writing this preview for well over a week. This year’s race has the potential to be just as competitive as MMT 2006 when an epic battle between Sim Jae Duk, Karl Meltzer, and Matt Estes pushed [...]
2009 Massanutten 100 – Women's Race Preview
May 15, 2009 by Bryon Powell · Leave a Comment
We enjoyed predicting last year’s women’s MMT field so much that we’re doing it again. This year’s field features three more ladies than last year (23 vs. 20), and much more depth. We’ve got little doubt about who the winner will be barring injury, but there should be a race for second and tight packing [...]
2008 MMT 100 Updates Combined
May 17, 2008 by Bryon Powell · 11 Comments
iRunFar hates strongly dislikes clutter. While iRunFar’s separate MMT Updates served their purpose during the race, they clutter up the blog. Therefore, we’ve taken them and combined them into one post. Other than some tidying up of the format and a few corrections, they remain the same. The now read in chronological order, as well. [...]
Test of the iRunFar Trailside Posting System
May 15, 2008 by Bryon Powell · 1 Comment
Alright, some folks seem to want play-by-play from the MMT course this weekend. If this post is successful (and there’s a cell signal in Fort Valley), we’ll go live from trailside early this weekend. An early warning/apology to RSS subscribers who don’t want to follow MMT this weekend. iRunFar will be posting individual updates rather [...]
2008 Massanutten 100 – Women's Race Preview
May 13, 2008 by Bryon Powell · 4 Comments
While women’s field at this year’s Massanutten 100 does not have the numbers the men’s field does (20 ladies in the race versus 140 lads), it promises to be an interesting race in its own way. With so many very talented men in the race, someone is going to end up nailing a fast time [...]
