Salomon Advanced Skin S-Lab 12 Set

Salomon XA Advanced Skin 12 S-Lab SetSalomon’s Advanced Skin S-Lab 12 Set is the 5-liter Skin Pack’s big brother and, like its smaller family member, the 12-Liter Skin Pack is one of the finest hydration packs we’ve ever seen. While the pack boasts a dazzling array of features, its fit is what steals the show. Its snug, vest-like cut does feel like a second skin that eliminates quickly-tiresome pack bounce.

The main difference between this 12-liter Skin Pack and the 5-liter Skin Pack is the obvious 7 liter increase in rear storage capacity. When you consider the space is taken up by the packs’ 1.5 liter hydration bladder, you’re going from a 3.5-liter storage capacity to an 10.5-liter storage capacity with this pack. That makes this 12-liter Skin Pack much better suited for daylong self-supported runs as well as races with mandatory gear, such at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc.

On the features front, it’s got a , but that’s not all. The bladder’s hose threads out the bottom of the pack before being threaded under the arm through the vest itself. Salomon made sure that aid station stops remain quick despite this feature by adding a quick release/reattachment point between the hose and the bladder that you access from the outside of the pack. There’s a removable insulation pouch for the bladder.

There are two hip pockets that we’d recommend you think of as longer-term storage rather than immediate use pockets. There are two chest pockets that are better suited for immediate use items. There are also two water bottle holders on the chest straps, though for the American audience, these are more likely to be used as additional storage.

The pack comes in three sizes: extra small/small for a 34-38″ chest, medium/large for a 38-42″ chest, and extra large for chests larger than 42″. This corresponds to one’s size in a men’s Salomon tee shirt.

For additional commentary on the pack’s fit and features, check out our full 12-Liter Skin Pack review.

If you’re interested in the 12-liter S-Lab Skin Pack but want a pack with less storage capacity, you should check out the 5-liter Salomon Skin Packs in the iRunFar Store.
