2012 Western States 100 Pre-Race Story Roundup

June 21, 2012 by Bryon Powell · 8 Comments

Western States 100 logoWhile we think iRunFar is pulling together some great pre-Western States content (you can find all of our Western States 100 coverage in one spot) and will be interviewing numerous runners over the next few days, others are sharing great stories as well. Below, we share some of these with you and we encourage you to leave a comment letting other iRunFar readers know of additional pre-race stories worth reading. We’ll be updating this article as we learn of other resources.

Montrail logoBefore we get started, we’d like to remind you that if you don’t want to miss any of our Western States coverage, you can subscribe via RSS or via email.

Also, if you want to follow along on race day, we’ll be tweeting live from the course all day, so be sure to follow iRunFar on Twitter or to tune into our Western States Live Coverage page starting early Saturday morning.

You’ve really outdone yourself this week, Bryon, and I’m sure there’s more to come. And I gotta say I used to be a Western States hater — just didn’t buy all the hype — but you’ve made me a convert. Looking forward to the next few days!

Bryon- I love the constant coverage! Though, at this point, I’m convinced that you never sleep.

      Reese,
Sleep is for the weak, the dead…. and those who aren’t OCD about ultrarunning.

I spent some time studying in Iceland in the summer, and the locals make do with very little sleep during the long days of summer there. They would routinely stay out very late on weeknights, and then show up to work right on time. When we asked what the deal was, they told us they could sleep during the winter!

Byron, thanks again for all of the excellent stories/interviews prior to WS! It’s certainly an exciting time of the year for ultrarunning. Can’t wait to see how things pan out this weekend!

I wonder if my girlfriend will be okay with me borrowing her car at 1 am Saturday morning to drive up to Squaw to see the start…

    Hmmmmmmmmm.
