Karl Meltzer Pre-2011 Hardrock 100 Interview

July 7, 2011 by Bryon Powell · 17 Comments

Even if others have run Hardrock more times, it’d be fair to call Karl Meltzer (Redbull/Hoka One One) Mr. Hardrock. He’s won the race five times, finished second to Scott Jurek once, and, on Friday, will be toeing the line in Silverton for his tenth time. Watch the following interview to find out how Karl’s approach to acclimatization and trekking poles have changed, how his running has gone this spring, and the value of running one’s own race among many other things. Check it out.

There should be at least one more interview today. Gotta prep a bunch for tomorrow, so not too many more pre-race interviews.

He’ll be wearing the Hoka Bondi Bs and thinks his legs will be feeling better near the end than other runners.

I loved the interview and the surprised looks on the faces of the interrupter’s.

I noticed Karl’s gloves. They looked like biking gloves. Does he run in those?

Yeah, he runs in them. Pretty much standard Karl gear. Saves the hands when you bail.

Great interview. Interesting he’s running in the Bondi Hoka which is the road version of the shoe. Lighter but less stable. Rock it Karl!
