Geoff Roes Post-2010 TNF 50 Mile Championships Interview

December 7, 2010 by Bryon Powell · 12 Comments

For the second year in a row, Geoff Roes was at the front of the pack for most of The North Face Endurance Challenge 50 Mile Championships. For the second year, Geoff finished second. Listen to him give a blow-by-blow of his race, share his difficulties racing in the Marin Headlands, and talk about his race plans for next year.

Nice work Bryon on getting him to speak so lucidly about the race. Geoff always seems like a nice fella and in a slightly harsh way it’s good to see him so obviously gutted at coming second. I love our sport for the camaraderie it brings, but it’s good to know that the guys at the front really care about winning as well as just enjoying time on the trails.

I totally agree. I love to see this kind of fiery, friendly competition. One of the things I loved reading was the RunningTimes.com preview of the race where Anton was quoted as saying “No ties. Even if it’s Geoff.” I mean, what’s wrong with kicking your friend’s butt at the end of a race every once in a while?

    Nice interview, thanks.
Could you please reduce the background noise when recording though? it is a bit distracting

That’ll happen just as soon as I can afford better equipment. I did all I could be using a directional mic and walking away from the finish area.

        Martin-

Bryon doesnt have to do these interviews. You remind me of one of my favorite songs from the greatest band of all time.

        I’m sorry about the sun,
how could I know that you would burn?,
and I’m sorry about the moon,
how could I know that you’d disapprove,
I’ll never make, the same mistake,
the next time I create the universe
I’ll make sure we communicate at length

          Agreed,

I said it before and I’ll say it again. I really like the raw, unrehearsed, authentic nature of the interviews. The cheering of the crowd, laughter, general banter of like minded runners make me feel like I am there.

The natural state of affairs is where it is at in my humble opinion. I like the interviews conducted in the present state with all the distraction and ambience of nervous energy.

Keep up the great work bryon! You rock baby……..

Yes, I of course know that, I was trying not to be offensive or complaining the ‘I want some free hotel stuff for me as an apology’ way. It’s just that English is not my first language and it is tad difficult to understand everything Geoff is saying sometimes then for us people :)
I do really appreciate these interviews, they’re super great.

Did not mean to offend or complain, of course. Love those interviews! It is always something interesting to listen to.

I really love to hear your interviews with Geoff! My two favorite interview subjects are Geoff and Anton. Geoff is a very interesting guy to hear talk about running. I am amazed anytime he doesn’t win!

Keep up the great work Bryon!
