Thanks, Travis. I'm glad you like the new site. As for new Montrails, I can neither confirm nor deny the development of a lightweight racer.

Yes, good interview. I've never actually met Max, but I've been impressed with him ever since he destroyed me and everyone else (including Uli Steidl) in a brutally hilly 10K cross-country race in Seattle in 2005. I was in good shape and had a good race, and he was still over 90 seconds ahead of me!

Max is top notch - a superb athlete and a great ambassador to the sport. He always makes time for all the participants and fans at every race I saw him this year (XTerras, Lithia Loop, etc.). I think he will do great things in ultras in 2010.

I'm hoping he squeezes in an marathon Olympic qualifier too. He's got the speed for sure. That seems like some pretty awesome bragging rights to make the Trials, and I'm sure he could find 15 more seconds out there. Or maybe his closets are too full of USA shwag already?

SD

Great interview, Bryon. I'm a big Max King fan (from afar). I love that the guy seems to be following the Rule of Enjoyment while avoiding being pigeonholed -- or pigeonholing himself -- as just one type of runner.

A name to file away of a guy with a somewhat similar profile: Cody Moat. He was a decent college runner and now coaches cross country at a small town high school here in Utah. He won the Mid Mountain Marathon last fall in 2:45 on a course that has a very different profile but I suspect is comparable (on net) to Lithia Loop. (Until last year, the race hadn't seen anyone crack 3:00.) Lisa had more of a chance to talk to Cody than I did, so I don't know for sure what his future trail and/or ultra plans are, but he seems to have the goods.

Still hoping we can meet up at OR. Mole at Red Iguana is on me.
