2008 GORE-TEX TransRockies Run – Summary

November 10, 2008 by Bryon Powell · 4 Comments

GORE-TEX TransRockies RunI thought iRunFar readers would enjoy and future GORE-TEX TransRockies Run participants would benefit from a consolidated account of my 2008 TransRockies Run. Speaking of future participants, registration for the 2009 TransRockies Run (August 23-28) opened on October 1 and they’ve already received more applications than they had runners in this year’s race. If you are considering running TRR next year, you might want to head over to the TransRockies Run website get your entry in sooner rather than later. While I can’t promise that you’ll have the time of your life like I did, I’m pretty confident that if you go you’ll meet a ton of great people, see awesome mountain sites, run a ton, and just maybe discover something about yourself.

Thanks for the reports. This will serve as invaluable input into next year’s race strategies. Team New Leaf Ultra (me and my girlfriend) just signed up for next year’s event.

Your blog has been inspiring! I have also signed up for the 2009 race- I am getting psyched up. Any gear pointers?

T, Glad you like the blog. You’ll love TransRockies. I won’t be racing this year (running the Leadville 100 the weekend before), but hope to be there in some capacity. Too much fun to miss!

Re gear, minimize it. I never ran with more than a Nathan 10k waist pack. I brought Montbell’s UL pants and jacket. The jacket has a hood, which was my “hat.” My glove were a pair of surgical gloves. The set up was very light weight and took up next to no room.
