GORE-TEX TransRockies RunMy outcome oriented friends, loyal iRunFar readers, and Google searchers have all been coming to iRunFar over the past few days looking for the final results from the 2008 GORE-TEX™ TransRockies™ Run. Well, I’m happy to say that TransRockies has finally posted the results to Stage 6 (Excel- pdf) and the Overall Race (pdf). However, you should stay here and look at iRunFar’s version of the final results. Really. Being the hardcore data geeks and information gurus that we are here, we’ve taken TransRockies’ results and massaged them into a much more readable and usable format. We swear this to be true. Take a look for yourself. We’ve made it so that each race category is entirely on one page. In addition, all the stage times and placings, as well as overall time and placing of each team can be seen on one page. We’ve also alternately shaded teams so you can more easily read results within each category. We’re proud of our work and really think you’ll like the results. (horrible pun intended) Read on for iRunFar’s analysis of Wing’s of Glory’s race.

Of course, I have to admit that I wanted to see the final results myself. I must also admit that I’m super pleased with what I see. Before the race, a well informed someone said that Martin’s and my team, Wings of Glory, would be lucky to place top 10… well, we were 7th after all the miles were run! That 7th came with some hard work as the total times of the four teams which finished from 6th to 9th overall were within roughly 8 and a half minutes of each other! That’s a pretty tight race considering tthere was a separation of only 514 seconds over 108 miles… or not even 5 seconds per mile over rugged, mountainous terrain. What I’m personally most pleased about is that Wings of Glory was one of only two teams in the 21 team open mens category to place as well or better in each subsequent stage. Over the 6 stages Wings of Glory placed 13, 10, 10, 7, 6, and 6. (Dam Flatlanders placed 20, 20, 18, 18, 17 ,17.) I think this fully justifies our stragey of focusing on running strong, smooth, and efficiently every day, but not “racing” until the final day.
