The Week of December 4 – 10, 2006

December 11, 2006 by Bryon Powell · 1 Comment

Synopsis of Week’s Training:
I entered the week with the front of my lower left leg killing me. While I enjoyed pacing my friend through the second half of the California International Marathon, the 28 miles of road – mostly on the wrong side – had done me in. (I ran from finish in downtown Sacramento via the American River Trail to the half marathon point and then back to the finish.) Remembering how unpleasant this injury was after Leadville in August, I decided to take Monday and then Tuesday off entirely. Wednesday was a pleasant easy run with Drew. Thursday was bitter, nasty, windy, cold – as tough and lonely a fives as they come this time of year. I chalk missing Friday to multiple holiday season gatherings even though in the future I should try and better organize such days so that I can at least go for a short run. Saturday was another easy day with a couple miles of Drew’s company. Sunday, I headed down to the Shenandoah west of Charlottesville with Mike Mason. I proceeded to get my ass handed to me by both Mike and the mountains. I still had a blast on a gorgeous day in the mountains. I hope to post more on this run later.

By The Numbers:
Monday – Off. Recover from injury.
Tuesday – Off. Recover from injury.
Wednesday – 5 easy.
Thursday – 5 easy.
Friday – Off. Missed Day.
Saturday – 8 easy.
Sunday – 33 hard in mountains.

Weekly Mileage: 51
Year-to-Date Mileage: 2569
Three Week Moving Average: 61.1
Year-to-Date Weekly Average: 52.4

Upcoming Training Goals:
Run consistently during the week. Don’t get goaded into running hard at the holiday fat ass on Saturday. Go easy, whatever the distance, on Sunday.
